A local non-profit is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join their team. This role is perfect for you if you are passionate about non-profit work. This role is crucial in managing and preparing financial schedules and reports, ensuring data integrity, and overseeing payroll processing. The Assistant Controller will serve as a key backup to the Vice President of Fiscal Services / Controller and will interact with various stakeholders, including the Executive Leadership Team, auditors, and vendors.

Hours

Full-time, Monday-Friday 8am-4pm with some weekends and evenings as required.

Pay

$87,000 a year

Responsibilities

  • Manage financial data and reporting systems, ensuring accuracy and integrity through the Sage Intacct system.
  • Assist in financial system implementations or upgrades.
  • Provide leadership and supervisory responsibilities for accounting staff, ensuring adequate training and backup coverage.
  • Prepare budgets, approve AP transaction reports, and review expenditures for budgetary compliance.
  • Oversee month-end closing processes, including account analysis and reconciliation.
  • Serve as backup for payroll processes and ensure accurate reconciliation of bank accounts and payroll reports.
  • Generate ad hoc financial reports and ensure timely submission of billing and fiscal reports to funders.
  • Collaborate with Program Directors and the Executive Leadership Team for accurate financial reporting and understanding.
  • Prepare reports and schedules for various audits and perform in-house audits as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required.
  • CPA or professional designation desired.
  • Minimum three years of experience in a professional accountancy role.
  • Minimum two years of accounting experience with an agency or firm with significant financial operations and state or federal reporting requirements.
  • One year of supervisory experience is highly desired.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate team members.
  • Proficient in personal computer software with expert-level skills in Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
