Underwriter (Personal Insurance)

A reputable insurance company is seeking an Underwriter to join their team and assist with underwriting and managing personal insurance policies. In this role, you will evaluate risks, quote policies, bind coverages, and handle renewals.

After a six-month probationary period, flexible work arrangements such as remote work or adjusted hours may be considered.

The ideal candidate will have previous underwriting or insurance experience.

Hours

Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:00am-4:15pm

Responsibilities

• Review applicants' history and records to determine eligibility.
• Quote personal lines insurance products using various industry platforms.
• Address client inquiries in the absence of agents, handling concerns and processing updates to existing policies.
• Coordinate with lending institutions or third-party contacts to provide proof of insurance.
• Remarket policies to find optimal options when changes in the marketplace benefit the client.
• Process and manage required paperwork for accepted quotes, ensuring all necessary information and signatures are included.
• Bind policies and issue them in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with quoted terms.
• Oversee policy renewals, ensuring client requirements are met effectively.
• Assist with customer payments or collect payment details for submission through company platforms.
• Support agents and clients with policy reinstatements and handle cancellation requests as required.
• Assess risk levels and work with lenders, if applicable.
• Prepare complete submissions for companies to generate accurate quotes as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, insurance, or a related field preferred.
• Prior experience in underwriting, insurance, or a customer service role within the insurance industry preferred, but not required.
• Familiarity with personal lines insurance products (auto, homeowners, renters, etc.) is a plus.
• Familiarity with industry regulations, underwriting guidelines, and market trends preferred.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changes in the insurance landscape.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Ability to pass pre-employment state and federal background check and drug test.
